as we all know,that carbon dioxide is pretty fatso than oxygen.so the co2 had started to settle down in various areas around the lake.when people started to breath the evil gas,they started to fall down and some even started to feel like burning.and some even directly gone for the eternal sleep too [while they sleep].
and for the reason for the reddish turnover of water in lake nyos,geologists explains that the sub water of the lake,filled with the carbon dioxide,had entered the top portion,which in turn made contact with the atmospheric oxygen.
but,there still lies one more doubt.the survivors of the disaster claims that a huge sound was heard in that inauspicious night.but,the geologists wasn't be able to find the reason behind that sound.they explains that it might be a landslide or the tectonic move of the lake bed,which caused the natives to feel a great sound.and the 2nd reason closely implies the direct connection with the cause of the tragedy.
